Dripping, direct dripping or even dry smoking all refer to the same thing. Dripping is still vaping; however, rather than filling up your e-cigarette with e-liquid, you drip a few drops straight onto the coil or atomiser bridge and vape in this way.
Many experienced vapers prefer this method of vaping, as it tends to producer denser clouds and bolder, cleaner and smoother flavours. Dripping also improves the intensity of a throat hit and provides a greater sense of satisfaction.
If you want to try a number of different flavoured e-liquids in one sitting, dripping is ideal. The vapour is used up quickly and there is no need to change or clean tanks, meaning that you can experience several different taste sensations and try different PG/VG ratios quickly and easily.
If you are going to be driving a long distance or are not able to repeatedly drip e-liquid into your device, dripping is not advisable; however, it is an excellent alternative for every other occasion.
Dripping is relatively easy and many vapers start off using a cartridge with a built-in atomiser, simply removing the tip and filler and adding a few drops of e-liquid at a time. More advanced drippers will purchase specific devices for the purpose, usually featuring a small tank with a raised metal collar and atomiser to make dripping even more efficient.
A drip tip’s original purpose was to prevent vapers putting their lips on the atomiser, which gets hot. These tips have now been repurposed and have been made wider at the top, making it easier for liquid to be dripped straight down. Drip tips are a great way to customise a device and are made from an assortment of materials, including copper, glass, steel, aluminium, wood, silica gel and even jade.
The art of dripping
Dripping is ideal for more experienced vapers or those who want to blow massive clouds. Dripping is a refined skill that takes trial and error to perfect and vapers need to test out different methods before settling on the one that works best for them. It takes a few draws before the real intensity of a flavour is felt; however, it is important that you don’t put in too much e-liquid, or too little. Too much will result in a leak, which can be messy, while too little can result in a dry hit.
Dripping is an art form and improves with practice. This technique is a great way to up your vaping game and blow denser clouds.
